Job Description/Requirements
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for providing strategic cost planning, contract administration, and commercial management across infrastructure projects, including engineering, construction, and maintenance works. This role will ensure accurate budgeting, effective procurement, contract compliance, and that all works meet legal, quality, and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Preparation and analysis of Profit and Loss statements
- Development and monitoring of detailed financial and expenditure reports
- Conducting market research and cost benchmarking for materials and labor
- Identifying and engaging potential clients, vendors, and partners
- Preparing competitive bid documents and commercial proposals
- Leading contract negotiations and finalization with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Overseeing project budgeting, cost forecasting, invoicing, and financial reporting
- Monitoring project progress and conducting interim valuations and performance reviews
- Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, local/federal regulations, and quality standards
- Resolving contractual and commercial disputes in a timely manner
- Preparation of detailed Bills of Quantities, labor and material schedules
- Valuation of work done, certification of payment applications, and issuance of payment advice
- Contract administration including claims management, variations, and risk control
- Coordination with project teams for cost control and margin optimization
- Any other duties as assigned by management
REQUIREMENTS:
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
- Professional certification or membership is highly desirable (e.g., RICS, NIQS, CIOB, ICES)
- Postgraduate qualifications (MSc, MBA) in related fields will be an added advantage
Work Experience/ Industry Knowledge:
- Minimum of 16 years of relevant post-qualification experience in quantity surveying, cost engineering, or commercial management roles
- Proven track record of handling large-scale infrastructure projects across construction, renewable energy, or oil and gas sectors
- Demonstrated experience in cost estimation, tendering, contract administration, and financial control
- Strong understanding of engineering and construction methodologies
- Working knowledge of local and international construction laws and standards
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents
Skills and Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of contract forms (e.g., FIDIC, NEC, JCT) and procurement strategies
- Proficiency in quantity take-off software, cost planning tools, management software and MS Excel
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Navision, SAP, Oracle) is an advantage
- Strong understanding of project life cycles, value engineering, and change order management
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to explain complex financial and technical information clearly
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
- Superior interpersonal and stakeholder management abilities
- High attention to detail, particularly in reviewing on-site risks and cost implications
- Knowledge of local construction codes, engineering standards, and infrastructure practices
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in best practices
