- The Oil Trader is responsible for buying and selling crude oil and related petroleum products in global markets with the objective of generating profit for the company or its clients.
- This role involves market analysis, strategy development, trade execution, risk management, and maintaining strong relationships with key market participants.
Responsibilities
Market Analysis:
- Analyze global oil markets including supply and demand trends, price movements, and geopolitical developments.
- Identify trading opportunities by interpreting market data and forecasting trends.
Trading Strategy:
- Develop and implement trading strategies aligned with market insights, risk tolerance, and organizational goals.
- Evaluate performance of trading strategies and optimize accordingly.
Trade Execution:
- Negotiate and execute trades involving physical oil products (crude, refined products) and derivatives (futures, options, swaps).
- Ensure timely execution and delivery of trades.
Risk Management:
- Monitor and manage market, credit, and operational risks.
- Implement hedging strategies to mitigate exposure and protect profits.
Relationship Management:
- Build and sustain strong relationships with suppliers, refiners, brokers, and other traders.
- Act as a key contact in commercial negotiations and communications.
Logistics and Supply Chain:
- Collaborate with logistics teams to ensure smooth movement and storage of oil products.
- Oversee end-to-end supply chain operations related to traded goods.
Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure all trading activities are compliant with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all transactions.
Performance Monitoring:
- Track and assess trading performance, profitability, and operational efficiency.
- Recommend and implement improvements to trading systems and processes.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proficient in data interpretation, forecasting, and decision-making.
- Effective in contract negotiation and stakeholder engagement.
- Understanding of global oil supply chains, pricing mechanisms, and regulatory environments.
- Accuracy in documentation, compliance, and execution.
- Familiarity with trading platforms and risk management software.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field (required).
- Professional experience in oil trading, commodities, or energy markets (preferred).
- Certifications in Trading, Risk Management, or Financial Markets (an advantage).
Salary
N800,000 - N1,000,000 Monthly.
