Job Summary:
The Occupational Therapist in the Behavioural Unit will be responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing therapeutic interventions to help patients with mental, emotional, and behavioural challenges achieve maximum independence and improve their quality of life. This role requires a compassionate and creative professional who can design patient-centred rehabilitation programs in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess patients’ functional abilities, mental health needs, and daily living skills through observation, interviews, and standardised assessment tools.
- Develop and implement personalised occupational therapy treatment plans that address cognitive, sensory, and psychosocial needs.
- Provide interventions aimed at improving self-care, social skills, coping strategies, and vocational readiness.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and other allied health professionals to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
- Conduct group and individual therapy sessions, including activity-based and skill-building programs.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers on therapy goals, home programs, and adaptive strategies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in compliance with hospital policies and medico-legal standards.
- Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and participate in case review meetings.
- Advocate for patients’ needs and support their reintegration into community or work environments.
- Participate in staff training, clinical audits, and continuous professional development.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
- Current license/registration to practice as an Occupational Therapist in Nigeria.
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience, preferably in a mental health or behavioural health setting.
- Strong knowledge of therapeutic techniques for mental health rehabilitation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Empathy, patience, and a commitment to patient-centred care.
