Job Description/Requirements
The Fleet Manager will be fully responsible for the effective management of the organization’s fleet of heavy duty vehicles. The role demands a results oriented professional with proven experience in managing large scale fleet operations in Nigeria, ensuring maximum vehicle uptime, strict cost control, driver discipline, and compliance with statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations of all heavy duty vehicles, ensuring timely deployment and availability.
- Implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs to guarantee roadworthiness at all times.
- Enforce strict compliance with FRSC, VIO, and other regulatory bodies requirements.
- Control and monitor fuel usage, maintenance costs, and spare parts inventory to prevent leakages and wastage.
- Set performance standards for drivers and mechanics, ensuring discipline, safety, and accountability.
- Investigate accidents, breakdowns, and incidents, ensuring proper documentation and corrective actions.
- Negotiate and manage contracts with service providers, workshops, and parts suppliers.
- Develop and maintain fleet tracking and monitoring systems for real time oversight.
- Recruit, train, and supervise drivers and fleet staff, enforcing performance based culture.
- Manage fleet budgets, ensuring cost effectiveness and operational efficiency.
Provide management with accurate reports on fleet utilization, fuel consumption, expenses, and overall performance. -
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transport Management, Mechanical/Automobile Engineering, or related field.
- Professional certifications (CILT or equivalent).
- 10–15 years proven experience managing heavy duty fleets in Nigeria (logistics, haulage, manufacturing, or FMCG sector).
- Strong technical knowledge of heavy duty vehicles, maintenance practices, and spare parts.
- Solid experience dealing with drivers, unions, workshops, and regulatory agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enforce discipline in fleet operations.
Proficiency in fleet management systems and Microsoft Office tools. -
