Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Work under the direction and authority of the Finance Director in managing the Accounts Department, including supervising and mentoring accounting staff.
- Handle the full spectrum of accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports, as directed by the Finance Director.
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes, in line with directives from the Finance Director.
- Assist the Finance Director in developing and maintaining financial policies, procedures, systems, and internal controls.
- Monitor cash flow, manage budgets, and prepare financial forecasts in consultation with the Finance Director.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax authorities, regulatory agencies, and financial institutions under the guidance of the Finance Director.
- Ensure compliance with local accounting standards, tax laws, and regulatory requirements, as supervised by the Finance Director.
- Support the Finance Director in coordinating tax planning and preparation of tax returns (VAT, WHT, CIT, PAYE, etc.).
- Evaluate and recommend accounting systems and software improvements where necessary, with approval from the Finance Director.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and business insights for review and decision-making by the Finance Director.
- Provide financial analysis and support to management as delegated by the Finance Director.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and ensure proper asset tagging and depreciation schedules. Manage payroll processing and ensure compliance with statutory deductions and remittances.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; a professional certification (e.g., ACA, ACCA) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and statutory regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Demonstrated experience in handling the full spectrum of accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Proven ability to prepare accurate and timely financial statements and management reports.
- Solid understanding of budgeting, cash flow management, and financial forecasting.
- Experience working with external auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory agencies.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and staff mentoring skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
