Background
Access to Humanitarian Assistance and Development Initiative (AHDI) is a non-governmental organization based in Abuja, Nigeria. AHDI’s vision is a world where everyone is empowered to maximize their potential, live with dignity and freedom.
AHDI is looking for a smart, passionate, and qualified individual to fill the position of Senior Anchor in the Development Communications Department. The successful candidate will work with a dynamic team of media professionals on one of our active projects – Hude Network.

Summary of duties
The Senior Anchor will play a key role in shaping our narrative and delivering compelling stories to our audiences. In this position, he/she will leverage extensive experience in journalism to lead on-air TV segments, conduct in-depth interviews, write reports and articles, and provide insightful commentary on current events and stories within the humanitarian and development space. The position holder will ensure that our content remains engaging, informative, and reflective of our project and corporate values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead live broadcasts, dynamic storytelling, and interview segments of programs with clarity and authority
- Conduct thorough research in preparation for assigned TV programs, engage with guests on-air to deliver accurate and balanced reports
- Develop and produce original content that resonates with our target demographic, aligning with our project objectives
- Stay informed and current on news, events, and trends within the humanitarian and development space. Provide timely, insightful commentaries during broadcasts while maintaining composure and professionalism on air
- Conduct interviews with key stakeholders, ensuring a range of perspectives are represented in our coverage
- Collaborate with producers and editorial teams to strategize and shape coverage of events and stories
- Collaborate with producers, reporters, and technical staff to develop impactful program segments that resonate with our viewers
- Identify and invite the right guests for TV programs, and work with the logistics department to facilitate in-studio guest appearances
- Follow-through post-production processes with technical staff to ensure that the quality of audiovisual content meets predetermined and acceptable standards
- Coach and mentor Junior Anchors, fostering continuous learning, growth, and a high-performing work environment
- Ensure adequate planning (by self and team members) for every shoot, in collaboration with other technical and support staff
- Any other duties as assigned by supervisor
Required Qualifications and Work Experience:
- 3 to 5+ years of experience as a broadcast journalist, development communication specialist, or related field, with a proven track record of lead anchoring within the television broadcast space
- Exceptional verbal communication skills, with an ability to convey complex information in a simple, precise, and concise manner for ease of understanding by the audience
- Strong editorial judgment and a commitment to journalistic ethics
- Experience with multimedia storytelling and digital platforms
- Familiarity with humanitarian and development issues, trends, and audience engagement strategies
- Connected to an established network within the humanitarian and development space
- Proficiency in broadcast technology, including audio/video editing software and teleprompters
- Experience with content management systems and live streaming tools
- Knowledge of analytics tools to assess audience engagement and content performance
