The Challenge
We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Packaging Technologist to join our growing Engineering team at pladis Foods Nigeria. This role is critical to driving packaging innovation, ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards, and supporting our sustainability goals.
As a Packaging Technologist, you will play a key role in optimizing packaging systems and materials, managing packaging master data, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to enhance product performance and production efficiency.

The position entails:
Packaging Development & Innovation
- Design and develop new packaging solutions for products.
- Evaluate and test packaging materials for durability, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with R&D, marketing, and production teams to align packaging with product and brand requirements.
Technical Support & Machine Optimization
- Work closely with engineering and production teams to ensure packaging machinery runs efficiently.
- Troubleshoot packaging-related issues on the production line.
- Recommend improvements to enhance packaging performance and reduce waste.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure packaging meets internal quality standards and external regulatory requirements (e.g., food safety, environmental regulations).
- Conduct packaging validation and shelf-life testing.
Master Data & Specification Management
- Maintain accurate packaging specifications and master data in relevant systems.
- Document packaging standards and ensure consistency across production batches.
Sustainability & Cost Efficiency
- Identify opportunities to reduce packaging material usage and environmental impact. Support initiatives to transition to recyclable or biodegradable packaging.
Your Main Responsibilities
- Maintain KPI limits for packing material and finished goods wastage.
- Plan and execute maintenance activities for packaging equipment.
- Conduct training for packaging supervisors and technicians.
- Monitor line efficiency and packaging material usage.
- Support laminate design improvements and packaging optimization.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure effective packaging solutions. Ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards.
What Do You Bring?
Minimum Experience/Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or Technical College Certificate or equivalent.
- 5–7 years of relevant experience in FMCG, food manufacturing, or OEM environments.
- Hands-on experience with packing machines such as OMORI, Multipack, and Flex l.
- Strong knowledge of packaging technology, procedures and practices.
- Experience with high-speed packing machines and packaging substrates.
- Knowledge of TPM, Six Sigma, and strong project management skills.
- Excellent communication, team management, and leadership skills.
