Syarpa is a fast-growing fintech building modern financial solutions for Nigerians and Africans. We empower users to save, invest, and transact across currencies through a suite of innovative products—Rebble (on/off-ramp crypto trading), Bloom (savings and investments), Saturn (digital asset investing), and Scorepal (AI-powered robo-advisory). The Compliance and Legal Officer will ensure Syarpa operates within the law, maintains high ethical standards, and adheres to all applicable regulations—particularly around financial services, crypto operations, and data protection. This role involves legal risk management, AML/KYC policy enforcement, regulatory liaison, and contract management.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance Duties: Develop, implement, and maintain compliance policies in line with local (e.g., CBN, SEC Nigeria) and global standards (e.g., FATF, GDPR, MiCA). Oversee AML/KYC processes across all Syarpa products.
Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
Liaise with regulators and legal bodies as required. Train employees on compliance procedures and monitor adherence. Monitor changes in laws and regulations affecting crypto, fintech, and digital assets.
Legal Duties: Draft, review, and manage contracts, MOUs, NDAs, and partnership agreements. Provide legal guidance on company activities, especially around tokenomics, DeFi operations, and fundraising (e.g., SAFEs, equity rounds).
Represent the company in legal proceedings or negotiations, if necessary. Maintain legal documentation, license filings, and intellectual property protections.
Support due diligence processes in fundraising, audits, and partnerships.
Qualifications & Skills Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB); BL required. LLM or certifications in Fintech/Compliance is a plus.
3+ years experience in a legal/compliance role preferably in fintech, crypto, or financial services.
Strong knowledge of Nigerian and international financial regulations. Familiarity with crypto regulation frameworks (e.g., SEC Nigeria rules, MiCA, FATF). Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills.
Proactive, detail-oriented, and adaptable to a fast-paced startup environment. Nice to Have Prior experience working with a licensed VASP or fintech startup. Understanding of smart contracts, DAOs, and Web3 ecosystems. Exposure to cross-border regulatory issues and remittance rules.
Pay: ₦200,000.00 - ₦300,000.00 per month
