About the Role
At Broadshift Technologies, we’re building innovative fintech products that power everyday transactions for thousands of users. As we grow, compliance and legal clarity remain key to our operations. We're looking for a highly motivated Legal Officer to join our team and ensure that our business stays fully compliant with evolving regulations, while enabling us to scale safely and smartly.
This is a hands-on legal and compliance role supporting everything from contract review to regulatory strategy and licensing. You’ll be working at the intersection of law, finance, and technology, contributing to both daily operations and long-term initiatives that shape the future of our company.
Model: Fully On-site (Ikeja)
Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Support
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents including SLAs, NDAs, MOUs, partnership agreements, and customer onboarding contracts.
- Advise product, engineering, and business teams on legal and regulatory matters affecting new products or business models.
- Monitor, interpret, and brief the company on fintech regulations from CBN, NAICOM, NITDA, NDPC, and CAC.
- Liaise with regulators, external counsel, and government agencies as needed.
- Oversee corporate governance documentation, board resolutions, regulatory filings, compliance registers, etc.
- Review external-facing communications (e.g., marketing content, product policies) for legal risk.
Strategic & Regulatory Deliverables
- Lead licensing applications and renewals (e.g., Money Lending License, NAICOM Web Aggregator, others).
- Implement compliance frameworks, including NDPR, AML/CFT, and internal SOPs.
- Support audits, regulatory inspections, and risk assessments.
- Contribute to dispute resolution strategies and litigation management in collaboration with external legal teams.
- Lead legal due diligence during strategic partnerships, investments, or tech integrations.
What We’re Looking ForCore Knowledge & Skills
- Solid grasp of Nigeria’s regulatory landscape for fintech and digital financial services.
- Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills, especially for fintech, API integrations, and partnerships.
- Ability to identify risk, simplify legalese, and provide clear advice across departments.
Qualifications & Certifications
- LL.B + B.L (Called to the Nigerian Bar) – Mandatory
Nice to have certifications:
- Certified Data Protection Officer (CDPO)
- Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb UK or Nigeria)
- ACAMS / CCEP-I / Compliance certifications
Also it's nice to have practical knowledge of:
- CBN licensing categories (PSSP, PTSP, Super Agents, MFBs)
- NAICOM distribution rules
- NDPR & data privacy requirements
- Corporate governance standards from CAC
Experience
- 3–5 years post-call legal experience, and can function well within fintech, ICT, or financial services.
- Minimum of 2 years in a regulated organization or working with compliance-heavy environments.
- Prior experience supporting licensing, audits, or regulatory inspections is a big plus.
- Experience working in fast-paced startups, tech firms, or scaling companies is highly desirable.
