Job Summary
The Supermarket Auditor will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and transparency of all financial, stock, and operational records at Prixair Supermarket. The role involves conducting regular audits, detecting variances, ensuring compliance with company policies, and recommending improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce losses, and maximize profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Financial and Transaction Audits
- Review daily sales reports, POS records, and cash reconciliation to ensure accuracy.
- Audit till balances, petty cash, and bank deposit slips against actual transactions.
- Verify the accuracy of supplier invoices, credit notes, and payment records.
- Identify and investigate financial discrepancies or fraud indicators.
Inventory and Stock Control
- Conduct periodic and surprise stock counts to confirm alignment with inventory records.
- Audit goods received versus purchase orders and supplier delivery notes.
- Monitor shrinkage rates and identify causes (e.g., theft, wastage, supplier issues).
- Evaluate stock rotation practices to minimize expiration and waste.
Operational Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company procedures for procurement, sales, and cash handling.
- Verify adherence to regulatory requirements, including tax and safety standards.
- Assess adherence to promotional pricing, discounts, and loyalty programs.
- Monitor waste disposal records and ensure compliance with environmental policies.
Reporting and Recommendations
- Prepare clear, timely audit reports with findings and actionable recommendations.
- Highlight potential areas of financial or operational risk.
- Work with management to implement corrective action plans.
- Track and follow up on previous audit recommendations to ensure closure.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Accuracy rate of sales and stock reconciliations.
- Reduction in stock variances and shrinkage percentage.
- Timeliness and quality of audit reports.
- Number of compliance breaches detected and resolved.
- Effectiveness of implemented recommendations.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA, or CIA) is an added advantage.
- 3+ years’ experience in retail or supermarket audit roles.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, audit procedures, and retail operations.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and retail management/POS software.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills.
- Strong attention to detail, integrity, and objectivity.
Work Conditions
- Based at Prixair Supermarket but may involve visits to multiple outlets.
- Requires occasional work during evenings, weekends, or public holidays for spot checks.
