TEDxMaitama is an independently organized TED‑licensed platform dedicated to showcasing Africa’s boldest ideas, inventions, and changemakers. Our annual conferences, digital series, and community activations have featured thought leaders such as Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and Aisha Yesufu, racking up 500k+ YouTube views and sparking conversations across the continent. As we scale toward our 2025 flagship conference, themed “Rewriting the Rules,” we’re seeking a creative and data‑savvy Social Media Marketing Manager to turbo‑charge our digital presence.
Role Summary
The Social Media Marketing Manager owns TEDxMaitama’s voice across all social channels—driving awareness, engagement, community growth, and lead generation for events, webinars, and partnerships. You will craft strategy, create scroll‑stopping content, manage conversations, and turn analytics into insight‑led action.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy & Planning
• Build and execute a 12‑month multichannel social strategy aligned with TEDxMaitama’s goals.• Define audience personas, KPIs, and platform‑specific objectives (LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube).
Content Creation
• Develop and manage a dynamic content calendar—posts, carousels, Reels/shorts, Lives, and social audio sessions.• Write compelling copy, oversee design/creative, and curate speaker quotes and behind‑the‑scenes stories.
Community Management
• Engage daily with followers, speakers, partners, and volunteers; nurture genuine conversations.• Moderate comments, respond to DMs, and maintain TEDx’s tone of curiosity and respect.
Growth & Campaigns
• Plan organic and paid campaigns to hit follower, registration, and sponsor‑visibility targets.• Experiment with influencer collaborations and UGC challenges to drive viral reach.
Analytics & Reporting
• Track performance (reach, engagement, CTR, conversions).• Produce monthly dashboards and real‑time insights to inform content pivots and stakeholder updates.
Cross‑Functional Support
• Partner with Partnerships, Speaker Curation, and Events teams to sync messaging and launch campaigns.• Train volunteers on brand guidelines and basic social tactics.
You’re a Great Fit If You…
- Have 2+ years managing social channels for a brand, nonprofit, or media platform.
- Combine storytelling flair with data‑driven decision‑making.
- Know your way around Canva/Adobe, Meta Business Suite, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, and basic video‑edit apps.
- Thrive in fast‑moving, mission‑driven environments and can commit 5–8 hours per week. Are passionate about TED’s mission of “ideas worth spreading” and excited by Africa’s innovation narrative.
Bonus Points
- Experience growing an account from <10k to 100k+ followers.
- Familiarity with SEO, newsletters, or community platforms (e.g., Discord, WhatsApp Communities). Prior work on TEDx, tech/startup, or social‑impact campaigns.
