The OSP Planning and Design Technician plays a critical role in the planning and design of FTTH (Fiber to the Home) infrastructure. This position is responsible for conducting site surveys, preparing detailed network designs, and ensuring accurate documentation to support the delivery of high-quality, scalable fiber networks. The role supports the company’s strategic objectives of expanding and optimizing its wireline infrastructure to meet current and future demands.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct site surveys to assess and plan FTTH deployment areas.
- Develop low-level designs (LLD) for civil works and fiber infrastructure for Optical Distribution Networks (ODN).
- Prepare detailed design documentation including duct layouts, fiber cabling layouts, fiber splice plans, and bills of materials (BoM).
- Participate in joint site walkthroughs with the roll-out team, OSP vendors, and contractors to ensure design feasibility and resolve scope changes.
- Coordinate project activities including variation approvals, high-level project scoping, and documentation reviews.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of network plans and project deliverables in line with engineering standards and company expectations.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Accuracy and quality of OSP designs (measured by required modifications by the Team Lead).
- Timeliness and efficiency of site surveys without unnecessary re-visits.
- Precision of Bill of Materials and project documentation within approved tolerances.
- Compliance with project timelines and deliverables.
- Quality and accuracy of high-level scope descriptions and splice plans.
Qualifications & Skills:
Educational Background:
- HND or B.Sc. in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems.
- Candidates with relevant field experience in fiber projects may also be considered, even without a science/engineering background.
Technical & Functional Skills:
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Visio, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong understanding of OSP fiber deployment processes, including splicing, termination, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to use fiber tools such as Optical Power Meters, Light Source, and OTDR.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and record-keeping abilities.
