Role Overview
The Legal Risk, and Compliance Manager will lead the company’s legal and regulatory compliance framework, ensuring alignment with corporate goals, regulatory standards, and risk management best practices. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and advisory skills, strategic thinking, and hands-on experience in legal compliance and enterprise risk management.
Key ResponsibilitiesLegal & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Review and draft legal documents, contracts, NDAs, MOUs, and commercial agreements.
- Provide legal advisory services on business transactions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships.
- Monitor regulatory changes and advise management on implications and necessary actions.
- Manage external legal counsel relationships.
Risk Management
- Develop and maintain the enterprise risk management framework.
- Identify and evaluate legal and regulatory risks across business operations.
- Create risk mitigation strategies and implement internal controls.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits in collaboration with other departments.
Corporate Governance & Ethics
- Ensure good corporate governance practices and support the Board/Management in compliance oversight.
- Train and educate employees on compliance standards and ethical business conduct.
- Lead internal investigations and manage resolution of compliance breaches.
Licensing, Reporting & Regulatory Liaison
- Manage regulatory filings and maintain licenses, permits, and certifications.
- Act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities (e.g., SEC, CBN, FRCN, EFCC, etc.).
- Prepare and submit timely and accurate regulatory reports.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B); Called to Bar (B.L).
- A Master’s degree or additional certifications in Compliance, Risk Management, or Business Law is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 9 years post-call experience in legal advisory, compliance, or risk management in a top law firm, multinational or highly regulated sector (e.g., banking, telecoms, fintech).
- Deep knowledge of corporate law, contract law, anti-money laundering (AML), data protection, and financial regulations.
- Proven experience dealing with regulators and external legal counsel.
- Strong ethics, discretion, and ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
