Role Overview
The HSE Officer is responsible for ensuring that Sagad Farms operates in compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, while also fostering a safety-first culture across all departments. You will lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of HSE protocols that protect people, livestock, and the environment.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Oversight & Compliance
- Conduct risk assessments and enforce preventative measures across all farm operations (livestock, crop, processing, etc.).
- Monitor and ensure compliance with local and national HSE legislation and Sagad Farms’ internal policies.
- Maintain up-to-date safety and environmental records and documentation.
Training & Culture
- Lead safety training, toolbox talks, and induction programs for all farm employees and contractors.
- Promote HSE awareness and best practices through daily presence, reporting, and ongoing education.
- Drive a proactive safety culture by identifying and correcting unsafe practices before incidents occur.
Incident Management
- Respond to, investigate, and report accidents, injuries, or environmental incidents; maintain logs and suggest corrective actions.
- Work closely with relevant authorities on audits or inspections, ensuring prompt resolution of non-compliance issues.
Environmental Stewardship
- Implement and monitor eco-conscious waste disposal, chemical
handling, and resource management (water, fuel, etc.).
- Recommend sustainable practices that support farm productivity
and environmental health.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Agricultural Science, or related field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years experience in a similar HSE role (agriculture or manufacturing sector preferred).
- Knowledge of national HSE laws, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.
- Excellent communication skills and strong leadership presence on the ground.
- Certification in HSE (e.g., NEBOSH, ISO 45001, etc.) is an added advantage.
- Ability to work independently, manage emergencies, and make sound decisions under pressure.
