ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Expertise
- Strong understanding of fibre optics: Including splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with industry tools: OTDR, fusion splicer, power meters, light sources.
- Network design knowledge: Familiarity with FTTH, FTTx, GPON, and backbone infrastructure.
- Documentation: Ability to read and produce fibre schematics, network diagrams, and splice plans.
Field & Installation Skills
- Efficient fibre installation: Underground, overhead, or inside buildings.
- Splicing proficiency: Clean and accurate splicing with minimal loss.
- Testing and validation: End-to-end fiber testing, fault finding, and certification.
Work Quality & Safety
- Attention to detail: High quality of work with minimal errors or signal loss.
- Site safety awareness: Knowledge of safe practices, especially in confined spaces or near live circuits.
- Clean and organized work: Proper cable management, labeling, and tidy site handover.
Project & Communication Skills
- Time management: Ability to meet deadlines and manage workload effectively.
- Reporting: Daily/weekly progress updates, incident reporting, and testing results.
- Client-facing ability: Can explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders if needed.
- Teamwork: Collaborates well with planners, project managers, and other engineers.
