Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation Engineer – Lead Auditor to conduct technical and compliance audits of instrumentation and control systems within refineries and infrastructure projects. The role involves evaluating process control instruments, safety systems, automation components, and documentation to ensure adherence to industry standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute instrumentation and control system audits in refinery and infrastructure environments.
- Assess the design, installation, calibration, and performance of field instruments, analyzers, DCS/PLC systems, SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems), and SCADA.
- Verify compliance with ISA, IEC, API, NFPA, NEC, and local engineering standards.
- Review instrument datasheets, hook-up drawings, loop diagrams, IO lists, and cause & effect charts.
- Evaluate compliance with hazardous area classifications (e.g., ATEX, IECEx) for instrumentation.
- Conduct field inspections of instrument installations, grounding, cabling, enclosures, and control panels.
- Assess calibration records, testing procedures, FAT/SAT documentation, and instrument maintenance history.
- Identify non-conformities and propose corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
- Ensure that instrumentation in safety-critical areas (e.g., fire & gas systems, ESD) meets SIL (Safety Integrity Level) requirements.
- Prepare clear and detailed audit reports, including technical findings and compliance gaps.
- Coordinate with engineering teams, project management, contractors, and HSE departments.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary technical audits and contribute to plant reliability and performance assessments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics, or Control Systems (Master’s preferred).
- Certified Lead Auditor (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001) is highly preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of instrumentation and control systems experience, including 7 years in audit, inspection, or QA/QC roles.
- Previous experience in refineries, petrochemical plants, or process infrastructure projects is essential.
Skills & Competencies:
- Deep understanding of process instrumentation and control systems.
- Knowledge of international standards (ISA, IEC 61511/61508, API, NEC, IEEE).
- Ability to review and assess loop drawings, control philosophies, and safety systems.
- Excellent technical report writing and documentation skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a risk-based auditing mindset.
- Effective communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Familiarity with calibration/testing tools and audit management software is a plus.
Preferred Certifications:
- ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 Lead Auditor
- Functional Safety (e.g., TÜV SÜD, Exida – FS Engineer/Expert)
- PMP or Project Controls
