About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced and passionate Leather Goods Production Lead Trainer to design and deliver our Shoes and Bags training module with particular focus on patternmaking. This role combines teaching, technical mastery, mentorship, and sustainability leadership to inspire and equip the next generation of African leather artisans.
Responsibilities
Training & Instruction
- Deliver engaging lectures and hands-on workshops covering the entire leather product design and development process
- Teach the creation, manipulation, and assembly of patterns—from 2D drafting to 3D functional prototypes
- Instruct students on sustainable material selection, leather types, trims, and ethical sourcing practices
Technical Leadership
- Demonstrate use of specialized leather-working tools and industrial machinery for shoes and bags
- Guide students in developing accurate technical packs including patterns, specifications, and labelling
- Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and craftsmanship throughout the module
Sustainability & Innovation
- Embed eco-conscious design principles and sustainability best practices into training content
- Encourage experimentation with alternative materials and efficient production methods
Program Promotion & Student Engagement
- Collaborate with the marketing team to promote the module via digital channels, social media, and partnerships
- Mentor students through feedback sessions, portfolio reviews, and project critiques
- Inspire confidence, curiosity, and mastery among aspiring designers and artisans
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- HND/B.Sc. or equivalent in Fashion Design, Leather Craft, Product Development, or related field
- Strong portfolio showcasing experience in leather patternmaking for shoes, bags, or accessories
- Advanced knowledge of leather tools, materials, and production equipment
- Experience developing and teaching technical content in a classroom or workshop setting
- Excellent communication and demonstration skills
- Prior experience as a trainer, lecturer, or workshop facilitator
- Proficiency in both manual and digital pattern-making software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, CLO, Rhino)
- Experience in curriculum marketing or student recruitment
