Role Summary
We are looking for a Creative Director who isn’t just a visual thinker but a visionary builder—someone who understands how to scale storytelling using design, talent, and AI-powered tools. From crafting visual language to streamlining animation pipelines, this person will lead the creative evolution of Kunda Kids across every format—books, apps, animation, merchandise, campaigns, and more.
This is a Pan-African, global-facing role for a commercially savvy leader with deep creative experience and AI fluency. You’re not just about what looks good—you think about what works, what speaks to children, what differentiates us from competitors, and how to get there faster, smarter, and bolder.
What You’ll Do
Brand & Creative Leadership
- Define and own the visual and narrative identity of Kunda Kids across all products and markets.
- Translate our core values and cultural DNA into a cohesive, dynamic creative language.
- Guide the creative development of books, animations, merchandise, audio content, mobile apps, and marketing campaigns.
Innovation, AI & Production Strategy
- Lead the creative innovation roadmap—how we produce content that’s faster, better, and scalable using modern tools and workflows.
- Implement and experiment with AI tools to improve animation workflows, content ideation, voice generation, prototyping, and more.
- Explore AI-assisted content pipelines for illustrations, motion graphics, storyboarding, and localization.
Audio Production Leadership
- Lead or collaborate in the production of jingles, children’s music, sound effects, and podcast/audio book formats.
- Oversee voiceover sessions and audio mixing to maintain brand consistency and quality.
- Work closely with the audio and tech teams to innovate storytelling in sound.
Public Speaking & Brand Evangelism
- Represent Kunda Kids at events, conferences, school tours, and panels across Africa and globally.
- Deliver compelling brand presentations, pitches, and storytelling sessions to diverse audiences—from educators to investors.
- Be a confident, charismatic voice of the brand in both digital and physical spaces.
Team & Talent Oversight
- Build and lead a cross-functional creative network—from illustrators and animators to sound designers and app UX teams.
- Oversee relationships with freelancers, studios, and agencies across Nigeria, the UK, East Africa, and beyond.
- Collaborate closely with the Product, Marketing, and Partnerships teams.
Business & Commercial Alignment
- Act as the bridge between creativity and commerce, ensuring our visuals serve both brand equity and business goals.
- Work on both B2B and B2C strategies, shaping how Kunda Kids is experienced by corporate partners, parents, and children.
- Provide creative leadership across advertising, retail, digital experiences, events, and investor-facing assets.
Global Storytelling Champion
- Maintain a pulse on Pan-African storytelling trends, children’s media evolution, and global creative standards.
- Stay ahead of trends in children’s media, AI content creation, design systems, and creative tech.
Who You Are
- A creative leader with 10+ years’ experience, ideally from a top advertising agency or children’s/entertainment brand.
- Has worked on a major account or campaign, and ideally received awards or industry recognition.
- Not necessarily an illustrator or animator (but this is a huge advantage)
- Deep understanding of design, narrative, and user experience.
- You understand the technical side of creative execution—familiar with tools like Adobe Suite, Figma, After Effects, Blender, and animation production pipelines.
- Has worked on a major account or campaign, with award recognition or strong commercial outcomes.
- Experienced in leading cross-platform storytelling—from illustration and animation to audio, UX, and video.
- Has a solid understanding of AI tools and their creative potential (e.g. generative design, automated animation, smart prototyping).
- Commercially smart: you understand how to tie creative direction to brand growth, engagement, and ROI.
- Comfortable working remotely with occasional travel between London, Lagos, and Kampala.
- Passionate about representation, innovation, and culture-first creativity.
