Job Title: Climate Change & Environmental Sustainability Advisor

Job Summary
The Climate Change & Environmental Sustainability Advisor will provide technical expertise to support the integration of climate action and environmental sustainability across development programming in Nigeria. The role includes assessing climate risks, advising on sustainable solutions, and ensuring the application of environmental safeguards in key sectors such as agriculture, livelihoods, health, and education. The advisor will also contribute to national climate policy engagement, multi-sector resilience strategies, and coordination with relevant stakeholders and platforms.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct climate risk assessments and environmental scans to inform project design, implementation, and decision-making across relevant development programs.
- Advise on integrating environmental sustainability and climate adaptation in sectoral interventions.
- Monitor Nigeria’s climate policy landscape and provide relevant updates and briefings to stakeholders.
- Develop strategies to ensure compliance with environmental integration standards, risk mitigation protocols, and relevant safeguard requirements across projects.
- Contribute to project design, logic models, and results frameworks with climate-related indicators.
- Participate in donor and government working groups related to climate finance, NDCs, and adaptation.
- Provide inputs on nature-based solutions, renewable energy, land use, and environmental governance.
- Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, and strategic advice to inform program decisions. Support capacity building and knowledge-sharing around climate resilience, mitigation, and adaptation.

Educational Requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- At least 7 years of experience in climate change adaptation, environmental sustainability, or related fields.
- Solid understanding of Nigeria’s climate vulnerability and relevant policies (e.g., National Adaptation Plan, NDCs).
- Experience supporting donor-funded development programs, especially in agriculture, livelihoods, or health.
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic technical guidance and policy analysis.
- Excellent research, report writing, and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills to support coordination and stakeholder engagement. Familiarity with donor climate priorities, environmental policy frameworks, and gender-responsive development principles is an advantage.
