1 . Background
Genius Hub is a human capital development organisation working to empower individuals and communities through entrepreneurship, vocational skills, innovation, and social impact programs. As part of our strategic growth agenda, we are seeking to strengthen our business development capacity to build strategic partnerships, mobilise funding, and identify new markets and revenue streams.
The Business Developer will play a critical role in positioning the organisation for sustainability, expansion, and long-term impact by leading fundraising, strategic collaborations, and proposal development processes.
2. Purpose of the Position
The Business Developer will be responsible for driving the growth strategy of the organisation through business model optimisation, proposal writing, partnership development, donor engagement, and income diversification initiatives. The role requires a results-driven individual with experience in fundraising, business model design, and stakeholder engagement.
3. Scope of Work
The Business Developer will be responsible for the following:
3.1. Strategy & Planning
Develop and implement the organisation’s business development strategy aligned with its mission and strategic plan.
Identify and pursue funding opportunities from international donors, foundations, corporations, and government bodies.
Develop new service or product concepts to enhance income generation.
3.2. Proposal Development & Fundraising
Lead and coordinate the preparation of concept notes, proposals, and expressions of interest (EOIs) in response to funding opportunities.
Coordinate input from technical teams and ensure timely submission of high-quality proposals.
Track upcoming opportunities, pre-position the organisation, and build relationships with funding agencies and partners.
3.3. Partnership Building
Cultivate strategic partnerships with NGOs, development agencies, corporates, and public institutions.
Represent the organisation at external meetings, donor forums, and industry events to position it for funding and collaboration.
Facilitate MOUs, consortium agreements, and partnership frameworks.
3.4. Business Model Innovation
Explore and develop new business models that support sustainability and mission-aligned enterprise development.
Collaborate with program and finance teams to design impact-driven but financially viable models.
3.5. Market and Competitor Analysis
Conduct research and analysis to identify market trends, funding priorities, and competitor positioning.
Recommend adjustments to service offerings based on market needs and donor interests.
4. Expected Deliverables
Business development strategy document with KPIs and milestones.
Pipeline of at least 10 high-potential funding opportunities per quarter.
At least 30 successful proposal submissions/funded engagements within the contract period.
New partnership agreements and MOUs signed.
Regular reports on business development activities, prospects, and engagement outcomes.
5. Reporting Line and Collaboration
Reports directly to the CIO or Strategic Partnerships Lead.
Works closely with Program Managers, Communications Team, Finance Unit, and MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning) Team.
6. Duration and Working Conditions
Remote-based role with flexible hours, depending on engagement.
Must be available for scheduled team meetings, proposal deadlines, and virtual partner engagements.
May involve occasional travel for partnership meetings or stakeholder engagements.
7. Required Qualifications and Experience
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Development Studies, International Relations, or a related field (Master’s degree is an added advantage).
Experience:
At least 4–7 years of relevant experience in business development, resource mobilisation, or strategic partnerships, ideally within a nonprofit, consulting, or development organisation.
Proven track record of writing successful proposals to donors such as USAID, EU, UN, DFID/FCDO, or international foundations.
Skills and Competencies:
Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills.
Strong networking and stakeholder engagement skills.
Ability to analyse financial and technical proposals.
Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to spot trends and act quickly.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and CRM tools.
8. Remuneration
Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications, per the organisation’s compensation structure.
