MTV SHUGA
MTV Shuga is our flagship campaign. Built around a hugely popular TV drama series, MTV Shuga has taken sub-Saharan Africa by storm, with seasons in Kenya (two seasons in total); Nigeria (five seasons); Cote d’Ivoire (two seasons); and South Africa (three seasons). The content has been broadcast by hundreds of broadcasters, including major platforms such as SABC 1 in South Africa, Citizen TV in Kenya, NTV in Nigeria, and Netflix. MTV Shuga Naija has been widely recognised for its success in promoting positive behaviour change related to HIV testing, reducing risky sexual behaviours, and addressing gender-based violence. Studies have shown that viewers of the show were more likely to get tested for HIV and reported lower rates of chlamydia infections and concurrent sexual partners. The show also effectively improved attitudes and behaviours regarding sexual violence.
