Heroes Help is a volunteer-led charity that supports members of the Nigerian Armed Forces—serving personnel, veterans, and their families. With a national footprint across six directorates and state-level teams, we deliver essential services in mental health, education, welfare, and community support.
About The Role:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated General Secretary to join our team. This is a strategic governance role, ideal for someone passionate about compliance, accountability, and strengthening the systems that keep charities effective and transparent.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain the charity’s governing documents and statutory registers
Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including CAC filings
Coordinate Board and Executive meetings: prepare agendas, take minutes, and manage related correspondence
Provide governance advice and support to the CEO and Board
Monitor charity procedures and ensure alignment with best governance practices
Maintain accurate records of all board decisions and ensure timely follow-up actions
Competencies Required
Essential
Excellent organisational and time management skills
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
High degree of discretion, professionalism, and integrity
Understanding of charity governance and compliance
Experience in company secretarial or board governance roles
Familiarity with Nigerian regulatory frameworks, especially CAC and NGO governance
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related field
Understanding of statutory compliance requirements
Experience organising formal meetings and managing board documentation
Legal or governance certification
Previous work with non-profits or charities
Familiarity with Nigerian corporate governance codes
