Heroes Help is a volunteer-led charity committed to supporting Nigerian Armed Forces personnel, veterans, and their families. Through six national directorates and state-level teams, we deliver life-changing programs in mental health, welfare, education, and livelihood.
We are seeking an exceptional Director of Marketing and Communications (Volunteer) to shape our public voice, strengthen brand identity, and drive engagement across multiple channels. This senior leadership role oversees strategy and delivery in media relations, digital content, advocacy, creative design, and internal communications.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy
Advise the CEO and Board on public engagement, media crises, and brand risk
Act as a spokesperson when required, representing the charity in the media and public forums
Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary directorate including digital, media, advocacy, and creative teams
Build brand consistency and storytelling excellence across all channels
Design and implement multi-channel campaigns for fundraising, program awareness, and advocacy
Oversee media relations, public affairs, and partnerships with journalists and policymakers
Drive innovation in supporter journeys, brand development, and digital engagement
Monitor reputational risks and manage crisis communication planning
Collaborate with other directorates to ensure unified messaging and impact storytelling
✅ Requirements:
Essential:
Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field
Minimum 3 years in senior communications, marketing, or public relations leadership
Expertise in media engagement, messaging strategy, and public reputation management
Proven leadership in cross-functional teams
Excellent writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills
Strategic thinking and adaptability in fast-paced environments
Desirable:
Postgraduate qualification in Communications Strategy or Public Affairs
Experience in nonprofits, military advocacy, trauma-informed storytelling, or inclusive campaigns
Understanding of policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and digital innovation
