Job Description:
The Community Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing medications accurately, providing professional advice on the safe and effective use of medicines, managing prescriptions, and promoting health and wellness within the community. The role also includes ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical regulations, driving sales, cross-selling, up-selling, supervising support staff, and contributing to the overall success of the pharmacy.
Key Responsibilities
Dispensing & Patient Care
- Accurately review, interpret, and dispense prescriptions in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Provide professional advice and counseling to patients on medication use, dosage, side effects, interactions, and lifestyle modifications.
- Ensure safe, effective, and rational use of medicines.
- Respond to minor ailments by recommending appropriate over-the-counter medications.
Sales & Business Development
- Drive sales of prescription and over-the-counter medicines, wellness products, and other pharmacy services.
- Consistently work towards achieving and exceeding set sales targets.
- Promote value-added services (e.g., health checks, immunization programs) to increase revenue streams.
- Support cross-selling and upselling of related products to improve customer satisfaction and business growth.
- Monitor sales trends, analyze performance data, and recommend strategies to boost revenue.
Inventory & Stock Management
- Oversee procurement, receipt, and storage of pharmaceutical products.
- Monitor inventory levels, prevent stockouts, and minimize wastage or expiry of medicines.
- Ensure controlled drugs are stored and dispensed in line with legal requirements.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of prescriptions, sales, and controlled substances.
- Ensure compliance with all local laws, professional codes of conduct, and pharmacy regulations.
- Participate in audits and inspections as required.
Customer Service & Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships with customers by delivering excellent service and trust-based pharmaceutical care.
- Promote health awareness programs such as vaccination drives, hypertension/diabetes screenings, and other preventive health initiatives.
- Address customer concerns and resolve issues promptly.
Team Supervision & Training
- Supervise and support pharmacy technicians, interns, and assistants.
- Provide ongoing training and mentoring to ensure high standards of practice.
- Foster a collaborative, ethical, and customer-focused work environment.
Business & Operational Support
- Contribute to achieving sales and profitability targets of the pharmacy.
- Suggest and implement initiatives to improve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Support marketing campaigns for pharmacy services and wellness products.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Licensure
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD).
- Must be a licensed Pharmacist with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) or relevant authority.
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years working experience as a Community Pharmacist in a retail or clinical setting.
- Experience in customer service and stock management is an advantage.
