A supervisor at a restaurant plays a critical role in ensuring smooth daily operations and maintaining high service standards. Key responsibilities typically include:
1. Staff Management
- Supervising and coordinating front-of-house and/or back-of-house staff.
- Scheduling shifts, ensuring adequate staffing.
- Training new employees and providing ongoing coaching.
- Monitoring staff performance and enforcing company policies.
2. Customer Service
- Ensuring guests receive excellent service.
- Handling customer complaints or issues professionally.
- Supporting staff in resolving difficult service situations.
3. Operations Oversight
- Overseeing opening and closing procedures.
- Ensuring cleanliness, hygiene, and safety standards are met.
- Managing inventory, supplies, and sometimes placing orders.
4. Quality Control
- Ensuring food and service quality meet brand standards.
- Monitoring presentation, portion sizes, and service speed.
5. Cash Handling and Reporting
- Supervising cash register operations and ensuring accuracy.
- Completing daily sales reports and reconciling receipts.
6. Compliance and Safety
- Enforcing health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
- Ensuring staff follow licensing laws (e.g., for alcohol service).

Qualifications for a Restaurant Supervisor:
1. Education
- Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., WAEC, NECO, GED).
- Preferred: Diploma or degree in Hospitality Management, Catering & Hotel Management, or a related field.
2. Work Experience
- Essential: 1–3 years of experience in the food service industry, ideally with at least 1 year in a team lead or supervisory role.
- Experience in both front-of-house (customer service, waitstaff) and/or back-of-house (kitchen operations) is often advantageous.
3. Skills
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Good problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic understanding of inventory management and POS (Point of Sale) systems.
