Position: Research Analyst (Part-Time)
Commitment: ~15 hours per week
Contract Duration: 3 months (with possibility of extension)
Location: Remote/Flexible
About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and proven Research Analyst to provide technical and analytical support for an ongoing PhD project examining Government Control, Government Coalitions and Economic Growth. The project applies a mixed-methods approach, with a strong emphasis on quantitative panel data econometrics and complementary qualitative insights.
This role is ideally suited for a PhD candidate or a recent Master’s graduate with demonstrated experience in economics research, econometrics, and political economy. The analyst will work directly with the principal researcher to drive forward empirical analysis, produce high-quality reports, and contribute substantively to the project’s academic rigor. The candidate should possess a laptop and good internet connectivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical research support for data analysis, particularly in econometrics and time-series cross-sectional modeling.
- Conduct quantitative analysis using V-Dem and World Bank WDI datasets (and related economic/political datasets).
- Prepare clear, structured research reports , tables, and visualizations to support thesis chapters.
- Support the literature review and synthesis on development economics, government coalitions, and the political economy of development.
- Collaborate on the design, refinement, and interpretation of econometric models, including robustness tests, lag structures, and panel data regressions.
- Assist with drafting, editing, and formatting academic-quality outputs.
- Operate with a self-starting, independent attitude while maintaining consistent communication with the principal researcher.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree (completed) or current PhD candidacy in Economics, Political Economy, Development Studies, or a closely related field.
- At least one recent publication in the field of economics (peer-reviewed or working paper).
- Strong knowledge of R programming for econometric modeling, with a focus on panel data and time-series cross-sectional analysis.
- Demonstrated understanding of development economics, government coalitions, and political economy of development .
- Proven ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality academic outputs. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
