Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Quantity Surveyor with a specialization in estimation and proposals. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects, from initial inquiries to final tender submissions. This role requires a strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and costs, as well as excellent analytical and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for a wide range of construction projects, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Tender & Bid Management: Manage the entire tender process, from receiving and reviewing tender documents to preparing and submitting competitive bids.
- Proposal Development: Develop comprehensive and compelling proposals that highlight our company's strengths and value proposition.
- Quantity Take-offs: Conduct detailed quantity take-offs from architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
- Supplier & Subcontractor Engagement: Obtain and analyze quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
- Risk Analysis: Identify and assess potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Cost Analysis: Maintain and update a database of historical project costs to inform future estimates.
- Client & Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively with clients, architects, engineers, and internal teams to clarify project requirements and present proposals.
- Value Engineering: Identify opportunities for value engineering to optimize project costs without compromising quality or design.
- Reporting: Prepare and present detailed reports on estimates, tenders, and proposals to senior management.
- Market Research: Stay current with market trends, material costs, and construction technologies.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Two years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor with a focus on estimation and proposals in the construction industry.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., [mention specific software like Bluebeam, Planswift, CostX]).
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes.
- Excellent understanding of contract law and tender procedures in United Kingdom
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
