The Department of Geoscience and Petroleum at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), in partnership with the SFI SWIPA – Centre for Subsurface Well Integrity, Plugging and Abandonment, invites applications for a fully funded PhD position focused on the development of bismuth-based expanding materials for well integrity during plugging and abandonment operations.
The successful candidate will engage in advanced numerical modelling, material characterization, and experimental validation using leading software platforms such as Abaqus, COMSOL, or ANSYS.
Requirements
– Master’s degree (or equivalent) in petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering, geomechanics, rock mechanics, applied physics, or related fields
– Experience with thermo-mechanical simulations or finite element modelling is highly desirable
– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
– Proficiency in relevant software tools is an advantage
