Job Description/Requirements
We are seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable International Trade Expert based in Nigeria to support the implementation of our AfCFTA Business Expansion Program . This professional will play a key role in delivering training, policy interpretation, advisory services, and hands-on support to businesses looking to export from Nigeria and foreign companies seeking to import into Nigeria under the AfCFTA and other trade frameworks.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of international trade laws , AfCFTA protocols , Nigerian export/import regulations , and a proven track record of guiding companies through market entry and cross-border trade processes .
✅ Key Responsibilities 1. Training & Curriculum Delivery
- Design and deliver high-quality training modules on:
- AfCFTA structures, protocols, and tariff schedules
- Exporting from Nigeria: documentation, compliance, logistics
- Importing into Nigeria: regulatory bodies, duties, and port clearance
- Facilitate workshops and seminars for SMEs and multinational clients
2. Trade Advisory & Consulting
- Provide technical advice to clients on:
- Choosing the right trade framework (AfCFTA, ECOWAS ETLS, AGOA, etc.)
- Customs procedures, HS codes, tariff applications, and NTBs
- Trade finance, export promotion incentives, and risk mitigation
- Support clients with end-to-end trade planning, documentation, and execution
3. Regulatory Navigation
- Interpret and apply trade laws, Nigerian Customs regulations, NEPC procedures, NAFDAC/SON standards, and import-export policies
- Liaise with relevant trade bodies and regulatory agencies on behalf of clients
4. Policy & Market Analysis
- Monitor changes in Nigeria’s trade policies and AfCFTA developments
- Provide regular insights and reports on intra-African trade flows, tariffs, and regulatory updates
5. Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strategic relationships with:
- Government and trade agencies (NEPC, NCS, CAC, FMITI, etc.)
- Chambers of commerce, customs brokers, ports authorities
- Regional AfCFTA secretariat and continental trade support organizations
? Required Qualifications & Experience Education:
- Master’s degree (or higher) in International Trade, International Business, Economics, Law, or a related field
- Relevant certifications (e.g., ITC Certified Trainer, WTO Trade Policy Certificate) are a strong plus
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in:
- Export/import operations
- Trade policy analysis or implementation
- International trade compliance
- Working with trade support institutions (e.g., NEPC, NCS, Afreximbank, AfCFTA Secretariat)
- Demonstrable experience providing training, consulting, or project support in trade-related initiatives
- Experience working with SMEs, multinationals, or trade facilitation projects in Africa
Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of:
- AfCFTA agreement , protocols on trade in goods/services, RoO, and dispute settlement mechanisms
- Nigerian export documentation and procedures
- Tariff schedules, HS codes, ECOWAS Trade Liberalization Scheme (ETLS)
- Trade barriers, NTBs, quotas, permits, and trade facilitation tools
- Strong command of trade finance instruments, INCOTERMS, customs valuation principles, and cross-border logistics
