Summary
The Financial Reporting Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of financial reports and statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and regulations from industry-specific bodies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). The role plays a critical part in ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining financial integrity, and supporting decision-making across the organization. It involves cross-functional collaboration, audit support, and continuous monitoring of industry trends and regulatory changes.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and NERC regulatory guidelines.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure the completeness and accuracy of financial data.
- Support the preparation and timely submission of statutory returns and regulatory reports to authorities such as NERC, FIRS, and PENCOM.
- Assist with internal, external, and tax audits by providing necessary documentation and resolving audit queries.
- Monitor and track capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) against approved budgets.
- Ensure proper accounting treatment of key transactions, including energy purchases, tariffs, and customer billing activities.
- Collaborate with departments such as billing, treasury, and operations to ensure the completeness and accuracy of reported data.
- Maintain and update the chart of accounts to ensure alignment with reporting and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in preparing management reports and financial presentations for executive leadership and the board.
- Identify areas for improvement in financial processes and support the development of internal control enhancements. Stay current with changes in financial reporting standards, sector-specific regulations, and industry best practices.

Educational Requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in financial reporting, preferably in the power or utilities sector.
- Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent)
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and regulatory frameworks relevant to the Nigerian power sector (e.g., NERC).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial software such as Sage, SAP, or similar ERP systems.
- Strong attention to detail, with excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to meet tight reporting deadlines and manage multiple priorities. Effective communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork.
