We are seeking a seasoned Engineering Manager based in Abuja to lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing software engineering team building digital health solutions across Africa. You will be responsible for delivering robust, scalable, and secure systems while nurturing a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and mission-driven innovation. This is a hybrid role requiring on-site presence for effective collaboration and team development.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership
- Oversee the design and architecture of web and mobile applications used by healthcare workers and patients across Africa.
- Review code, ensure high-quality output, and guide complex technical decisions.
- Align engineering practices with Sendoc’s standards for security, performance, and reliability.
- Team Management & Mentorship
- Lead a team of backend, frontend, and mobile engineers across Nigeria and other African hubs.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and career development guidance for engineers.
- Build and maintain a strong performance-driven engineering culture.
- Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product, Design, DevOps, and QA teams to ensure smooth product delivery.
- Participate in sprint planning, retrospectives, and product scoping discussions.
- Champion agile development best practices.
- Growth & Strategy
- Drive recruitment, onboarding, and retention of engineering talent in Nigeria and beyond.
- Contribute to the broader technical vision and ensure alignment with mDoc's OKRs.
- Identify opportunities for innovation, optimization, and scalability.
Requirements
- 5–8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial or tech lead role.
- Strong experience in backend (Node.js/Python), mobile (React Native), or frontend (React.js) systems.
- Solid understanding of DevOps, cloud infrastructure (AWS or CCP), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong team leadership and people management skills.
- Experience working in high-growth tech or health tech environments is an advantage.
- Passion for using technology to solve health equity challenges in Africa.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: ₦1,500,000.00 - ₦1,900,000.00 per month
