Resident Fertilizer Plc is a subsidiary of Resident Group, a diversified conglomerate committed to innovation and sustainable development across key sectors of the Nigerian economy. The Group’s portfolio includes major industrial initiatives, with Resident Cement as its flagship project in infrastructure and materials manufacturing.
Resident Fertilizer is currently developing a 1.5 million metric tons per annum (MTPA) urea fertilizer plant in Ondo State, Nigeria. The project is designed to enhance local fertilizer production capacity, support agricultural productivity, and contribute to national self-sufficiency in agro-inputs.
The company works in collaboration with international consultants, licensors, and engineering contractors to ensure technical excellence and regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Project Engineer (Conceptual Design & Pre-FEED Management), located in Ondo state Nigeria. The Project Engineer will be responsible for overseeing coordinating technical deliverables, ensuring alignment with project objectives, managing design reviews, and supporting early procurement and regulatory processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Conceptual Design & Pre-FEED Coordination
- Assist in the development of the design basis memorandum (DBM) and project
scope for the urea plant.
- Coordinate technical input from process licensors, technology providers, and
engineering consultants.
- Review and validate preliminary process flow diagrams (PFDs), heat & material
balances, and block flow diagrams.
- Track and manage the Pre-FEED contractor’s deliverables to ensure schedule and
quality compliance.
- Support the preparation of cost estimates, risk registers, and constructability reviews.
B. Technical Oversight & Engineering Support
- Participate in the selection of technology licensors for ammonia, urea synthesis,
and utilities/offsites.
- Ensure compliance with international engineering standards, IFC Performance
Standards, and Nigerian regulatory codes.
- Provide engineering input for site planning, utility requirements, and integration with
infrastructure.
- Coordinate with the EHS and Sustainability team to integrate environmental and
social considerations into the design.
C. Project Management & Stakeholder Engagement
Support the Project Director in managing Pre-FEED contracts, budgets, and
schedules.
- Liaise with local and international consultants, regulators, and government agencies
on project approvals.
- Support procurement activities for Pre-FEED studies, technical services, and early
works contractors.
- Participate in review meetings, HAZOP workshops, and stakeholder presentations.
D. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain project documentation including technical registers, meeting notes, and
change logs.
- Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for senior management and board
updates.
- Track technical risks and support mitigation strategies during the Pre-FEED phase.
2. QUALIFICATIONA & EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 5–8 years of engineering experience in process plants, petrochemicals,
or fertilizer projects.
- Prior involvement in conceptual design, feasibility studies, or Pre-FEED/FEED
activities.
- Strong knowledge of process engineering, utilities/offsites, and project development
workflows.
- Experience in contractor management and multi-disciplinary design
coordination.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Engineering or Project Management.
- Previous experience with ammonia/urea projects or large-scale petrochemical
plants.
- Familiarity with Nigerian regulatory environment and local permitting processes.
- Exposure to EHS guidelines (IFC/World Bank, OSHA, ISO standards).
3. KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Strong project coordination and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Effective communication skills for interfacing with technical and non-technical
stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment with international consultants.
- Proficiency in MS Project/Primavera, AutoCAD, and process engineering software
(e.g., Aspen HYSYS).
5. PERFORMANCE METRICS
- Timely delivery of Pre-FEED milestones within budget.
- Quality of technical inputs and documentation.
- Successful coordination with Pre-FEED contractor and licensors.
- Compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards.
- Contribution to de-risking project execution and readiness for FEED/EPC phase.
