Job Description/Requirements
The Power Systems Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical power systems at the organisation’s Data Centres and Points of Presence (POP). This role ensures uninterrupted power supply to critical infrastructure, optimises system performance, and upholds the highest standards of safety and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Operation & Maintenance
- Operate and maintain various brands and models of electrical power units in line with documented operating procedures.
- Conduct preventive maintenance schedules with/without third-party vendors, updating relevant documentation and checklists.
- Maintain and repair electrical power systems such as switchgear, UPS, generators, rectifiers, inverters, battery systems, AVR, ATS units, transformers, and PDU/PMM units.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Continuously monitor power systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Report on the operational status of power systems across all Data Centres and POPs.
- Track and analyse operational trends and respond promptly to abnormal conditions in UPS systems, generators, and ATS units.
- Maintain accurate records of operational issues for audits and SLA compliance.
Operational Efficiency & Compliance
- Ensure efficient colocation service delivery by following change and incident management processes in line with ITIL standards.
- Support customer-related power system issues while adhering to agreed SLAs.
- Promote safety, compliance, and operational excellence in all activities.
Qualifications & Skills
Education:
- Minimum of Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical & Electronics Engineering or related discipline.
- Relevant certifications or training in electrical power systems installation, maintenance, or repair.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of equipment installation, electrical/mechanical repairs, welding and fabrication, and safety standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows OS and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Skilled in fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Familiarity with Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tools (advantage).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 20kg.
- Ability to work in environments with temperatures below 20°C for extended periods.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Data Centre Operations or equivalent environment.
- Proven experience in troubleshooting and repairing electrical power system devices and components.
- Experience in maintenance planning and scheduling. Experience with Portable Appliance Test (PAT) systems.
