Company Overview
Flying Ingot Foundry are a growing industrial metals company operating a lead smelting foundry in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. With two 4-tonne rotating furnaces currently in operation and expansion plans underway, we are looking for a dynamic and experienced Foundry Manager to lead operations, ensure high production standards, and support the company’s strategic growth.
Role Summary
The Foundry Manager will be responsible for the overall operation of the lead smelting foundry, including production management, safety compliance, maintenance planning, and personnel supervision. This leadership role is key to maintaining efficient, safe, and environmentally responsible smelting operations, while also supporting future expansion and technological upgrades.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the lead smelting foundry, ensuring optimal use of two 4-tonne rotating furnaces.
- Lead and supervise production teams to meet output and quality targets.
- Monitor and enforce strict safety, health, and environmental protocols in compliance with Nigerian and international standards.
- Plan and manage preventive and corrective maintenance of furnaces and associated equipment.
- Manage raw material input and finished product output, ensuring accurate inventory control and waste minimisation.
- Work closely with senior management to support planned expansion projects, including commissioning of additional furnaces or equipment.
- Implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
- Prepare and manage budgets, production reports, and maintenance logs. Ensure proper training and development of foundry staff to maintain high performance and safety culture.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent technical qualifications with strong experience may also be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in lead smelting or heavy industrial foundry operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of smelting processes, rotating furnace operations, and environmental controls.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage production schedules, and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental regulations related to lead handling and smelting.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills. Experience with plant expansion projects is a strong advantage.
Preferred
- Prior experience working in West Africa or similar environments.
- Familiarity with ISO standards or other quality systems. Knowledge of downstream refining and battery recycling processes (if applicable).
