Job Description
The Finance Officer will oversee the financial health of the company by managing accounting operations, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and providing timely financial insights to management. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to manage time-sensitive financial activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise financial administration systems and procedures in line with company policies and regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions, ensuring timely preparation of replenishment requests and reports.
- Prepare balance sheets, income statements, and financial reports to support management decisions.
- Process and record accounts payable and receivable transactions.
- Manage payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and timely disbursement, including statutory deductions (PAYE, Pension, NHF, etc.).
- Oversee statutory compliance by preparing and filing tax returns (VAT, WHT, PAYE, Corporate Income Tax), ensuring timely remittance.
- Support internal and external audit processes by providing complete and accurate documentation.
- Reconcile bank statements, monitor cash flow, and assist with budget preparation and forecasting.
- Review and implement financial policies, internal controls, and risk management practices to safeguard company assets.
- Monitor departmental and project expenditure against approved budgets, recommending cost-saving measures where necessary.
- Track company performance indicators and prepare management reports to support strategic planning and business development.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with auditors, bankers, regulators, and other external stakeholders.
- Provide financial input into tendering, contracts, and project proposals.
- Drive adoption and efficient use of accounting/ERP software and support process automation.
- Perform any other duties assigned by management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline.
- Professional accounting certification (ICAN/ACCA) is preferred.
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in accounting and financial management, including bookkeeping, payroll, statutory compliance, and budget control.
- Proficiency in financial software and advanced MS Excel.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian financial regulations, tax laws, and statutory requirements.
- Excellent analytical, numerical, and reporting skills.
- Strong ethics, integrity, and ability to handle confidential information.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
