Job Description/Requirements


The Business Development Support and Enterprise Development Officer will play a key role in strengthening the capacity, sustainability, and market readiness of small and medium enterprises and institutions. The Officer will deliver tailored business development support services, facilitate linkages to finance and markets, and contribute to building a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem. The role also includes a strong focus on scaling up enterprise support services, expanding regional presence, and growing the client base to drive impact and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Enterprise Development and Capacity Building

  • Conduct diagnostics and business assessments of MSMEs to identify growth barriers and support needs.
  • Design and implement customized capacity-building plans and interventions.
  • Deliver or coordinate training and coaching on business management, financial literacy, record keeping, compliance, marketing, and operations.
  • Support enterprises in adopting formalization practices and improved business governance.

2. Business Development Services (BDS)

  • Map and engage with BDS providers, Coaches and relevant institutions for technical support, mentorship, and enterprise growth.
  • Identify and facilitate access to market intelligence, market opportunities, and buyer linkages.
  • Support MSMEs to develop bankable business plans and investment proposals.

3. Access to Finance

  • Build the investment-readiness of enterprises through financial coaching and documentation support.
  • Facilitate linkages between MSMEs and financial institutions, impact investors, and grant providers.
  • Work with finance partners to improve products/services suited to MSME needs.

4. Scaling Operations and Expanding Regional Reach

  • Develop and implement strategies to expand business development support services across target regions.
  • Identify and onboard new client enterprises, partners, and stakeholders to grow the organization’s sustainability and enterprise support portfolio.
  • Support the replication and localization of successful models in new counties, regions, or market segments.
  • Promote the visibility of sustainability offering and represent the organization in new markets, forums, and outreach events.

5. Monitoring, Reporting, and Learning

  • Maintain updated enterprise profiles and track progress against development milestones.
  • Contribute to data collection, case studies, and impact stories.
  • Provide regular reports on enterprise development activities and results.

6. Ecosystem Engagement and Partnerships

  • Represent the organization at relevant forums, events, and networks that promote enterprise development.
  • Build partnerships with government bodies, private sector actors, and accelerators to unlock opportunities for enterprises
  • Stay updated on national policies and trends affecting enterprise growth and resilience.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Economics, Development Studies, or related field.
  • At least 3–5 years of experience supporting MSMEs or enterprise development in a development, finance, or private sector setting.
  • Experience in business advisory, training, coaching, or incubation programs.
  • Strong understanding of access to finance, market systems, and value chain development.
  • Familiarity with the local entrepreneurial ecosystem and MSME challenges.

Key Competencies

  • Excellent facilitation, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in business tools, digital platforms, and MS Office.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
