Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounts Payable Officer to join our Finance & Accounts team. The role is responsible for managing vendor invoices, processing payments, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting smooth vendor relationships, and ensuring timely settlement of obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, review, and verify invoices for accuracy, completeness, and proper authorization.
- Match invoices with purchase orders, contracts, and delivery notes before processing.
- Post and record invoices into the accounting system promptly and accurately.
- Process payments (cheques, transfers, online payments) in line with company policies and payment terms.
- Monitor accounts payable ledger to ensure all payments are up to date.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Maintain proper filing and documentation of all payment-related records.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing by preparing schedules and reports.
- Support internal and external audits by providing relevant documentation.
- Maintain strong communication with vendors and internal departments to address payment-related queries.
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies, tax regulations, and statutory requirements.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree / HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2–4 years’ experience in accounts payable or general accounting (experience in logistics or transportation industry is an advantage).
- Membership of a relevant Professional body (Local or International) e.g., the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Association of Certified and Chartered Accountants (ACCA)
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Tally, or ERP systems) and MS Excel.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and payable processes.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
