Job Description/Requirements
Using power and hand tools, apply and install batting, foam, poly-filler and cut fabric to wooden framework in the assembly of hand-crafted furniture
Attach finishes, including buttons, trim, tassels and other decorative accessories, to complete orders according to specifications
Measure and cut fabric or leather pieces with the aid of patterns or stencils and industrial cutting tools to precise sizes and dimensions
Read work orders and maintain database of production status for communication with outside clients as well as in-house sales managers
Inspect wooden frame work for defects and make repairs as needed prior to upholstery application and other finish work
Operate portable hand-sewing equipment, nail guns, hobnail and tack hammers, hot-knife cutters and other industrial equipment
Determine fabric inventory and place orders with textile partner; provide status updates about fabric availability to clients and managers
Discuss complications or assembly line slow-downs with supervisors and brainstorm solutions for increased productivityinterweave and fasten strips of webbing to the backs and undersides of furniture, using small hand tools and fasteners.Make, repair, and/or replace automobile upholstery and convertible and vinyl tops, using knowledge of fabric and upholstery methods.Make, restore, and/or create custom upholstered furniture, using hand tools and knowledge of fabrics and upholstery methods.Measure and cut new covering materials, using patterns and measuring and cutting instruments, following sketches and design specifications.Operate sewing machines or sew upholstery by hand to seam cushions and join various sections of covering material.Read work orders, and apply knowledge and experience with materials in order to determine types and amounts of materials required to cover workpieces.Remove covering, webbing, padding, and/or defective springs from workpieces, using hand tools such as hammers and tack pullers.Sew rips or tears in material, or create tufting, using needles and thread.
