Role Overview
We are seeking an ambitious and experienced Business Development Lead (Business Commercial Lead) to drive our partner's market growth in Abia State, with a focus on Umuahia and Aba. The ideal individual will spearhead brand visibility, partner engagement, field team development, and local sales performance. You’ll play a key leadership role in scaling the impact and operations from the ground up.
Primary Responsibilities
- Market Growth & Brand Visibility
- Lead the expansion in Umuahia and Aba, establishing the brand as a trusted solution for affordable healthcare.
- Drive local awareness through grassroots activations, community partnerships, and public engagement.
- Ensure consistent brand presence and communication across the region.
- Healthcare & Partner Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, and local healthcare providers to support insurance coverage delivery.
- Collaborate with HMOs and local government health offices to integrate offerings into community health structures.
- Sales Leadership & Distribution
- Design and implement local sales strategies to grow insurance enrollments and recycling activity.
- Manage agent network and franchise partners, ensuring high performance, proper training, and accountability.
- Work closely with marketing and tech teams to align campaigns with ground-level sales.
- Team Management
- Recruit, train, and lead a small but agile local business development team.
- Instil a strong results-driven culture aligned with mission and values.
- Provide coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations to build a motivated, high-impact team.
5. Financial & Operational Oversight
- Monitor local unit economics, track KPIs, and ensure regional profitability and operational efficiency.
- Identify cost-effective growth opportunities, manage budgets, and optimize resource allocation.
- Report regularly to headquarters on progress, challenges, and insights from the field
What We’re Looking For
- 3-5+ years in business development, regional expansion, or market activation roles— preferably in telecom, health insurance, microfinance, or FMCG.
- Proven ability to launch and scale business units in emerging market settings.
- Strong local knowledge of Abia State, with experience building trust and partnerships in grassroots communities.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
- Sales-driven mindset with experience building agent or distributor networks.
- Passion for solving real-world problems with business innovation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (MBA or master’s a plus)
- Familiarity with inclusive insurance, circular economy, or health tech sectors
- Fluency in Igbo language and comfort working in low-resource settings
