About TechCabal:
TechCabal lights the path to Africa's future by making technology and its impact visible, understood, and accessible to everyone. We explore technology at the nth degree, tracing its deepest impact and engaging with the builders, thinkers, and individuals navigating its trajectory. We shape the conversation with depth, insight, and clarity.
We believe technology is in everything. Covering it means following the signal wherever it leads; from fintech to policy, logistics to culture, infrastructure to startups. We are producing journalism that is curious, rigorous, and grounded in real-world impact.
About The Role
We’re looking for a Junior Reporter to join our newsroom. You’ll shop around beats, working across the full breadth of African tech and adjacent sectors. Your job is to report sharp, well-framed stories that help our audiences understand the systems shaping their lives and the people building them.
You’ll work closely with editors to produce a mix of:
- Quick Context pieces that add missing clarity to breaking or trending stories.
- News analysis that connects headlines to the bigger picture.
- Features that deconstruct or humanise systems.
- Explainers that give readers confidence in complex topics.
- Occasional contributions to TechCabal newsletters and other editorial products.
This role is for someone who is endlessly curious, can move between topics with agility, and is committed to producing work that could only have come from TechCabal.
What You’ll Do
- Report across formats and beats, adapting to story needs and editorial priorities.
- Source, pitch, and develop original story ideas that meet TC’s editorial standards.
- Build and maintain relationships with sources across sectors.
- Collaborate with editors, designers, and product teams to tell stories in innovative ways.
- Uphold TechCabal’s editorial principles.
What We’re Looking For
- Demonstrated ability to write clearly, engagingly, and with purpose.
- A broad curiosity across African technology and its intersections with business, policy, and culture.
- Evidence of critical thinking and the ability to find distinct angles.
- Strong research and interviewing skills.
- Comfort with deadlines and multiple story formats.
- A collaborative spirit and willingness to learn from feedback.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with digital publishing tools (WordPress, newsletter platforms, basic CMS).
- Comfort interpreting basic data and using it to inform reporting.
- Multimedia skills (audio, video, graphics) are a great plus.
Why Join Us? At TechCabal, you’ll:
- Learn from an experienced, ambitious editorial team.
- Develop a range across beats before specialising.
- Work on stories that travel locally and globally.
- Be part of shaping the conversation on how technology is changing Africa.
If you’re excited to report with rigour, write with clarity, and explore the breadth of African tech, we want to hear from you.
