This role requires the ability to perform both routine and specialized welding tasks—including work at significant heights—while strictly adhering to safety protocols and technical specifications.
Responsibilities
- High-Precision Welding:
- Perform specialized welding tasks (e.g., arc welding, gas torch welding, plasma cutting) on critical equipment and piping systems.
- Ensure each welding operation meets exacting technical specifications and quality standards.
- Work at Heights:
- Safely execute welding tasks at elevated heights (up to 100 meters) on structures or during equipment repair and maintenance.
- Follow all relevant safety procedures and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) rigorously.
- Material Preparation and Component Fitting:
- Interpret technical drawings and blueprints to prepare materials, fit components, and align structures for welding.
- Ensure materials are correctly prepared to minimize errors during the welding process.
- Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Operate welding equipment efficiently in varying site conditions, including confined spaces.
- Regularly inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot welding equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Electrode and Material Handling:
- Select and manage the appropriate welding electrodes and consumables for each task.
- Maintain an inventory of welding supplies, ensuring that all materials meet required standards.
- Quality Assurance and Inspection:
- Conduct thorough visual inspections of welds and joints to verify compliance with technical, quality, and safety standards.
- Address defects immediately and document any issues to help improve subsequent procedures.
- Repair and Maintenance:
- Perform repairs, modifications, and maintenance on thermal power equipment and piping systems as required.
- Quickly diagnose welding issues and employ corrective techniques to maintain operational integrity.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Keep detailed records of welding processes, inspections, equipment maintenance, and safety checks.
- Prepare reports outlining work completed, deviations noted, and corrective actions taken.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- Certification:
- Must hold a valid IBR Welding Certification (as applicable to the industry or local regulations).
- Experience:
- Proven experience in industrial welding, particularly in high-precision environments such as power plants or heavy manufacturing.
- Prior experience working at heights and in confined spaces is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in reading technical drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications.
- Familiarity with multiple welding techniques and the proper use of welding equipment.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, including a thorough understanding and application of safety protocols.
- Must consistently use and enforce the use of PPE and other safety measures.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Additional certifications (such as AWS Certified Welder, Certified Welding Inspector, etc.) are an advantage.
- Prior training in non-destructive testing (NDT) and repair methodologies.
- Experience with both manual and semi-automatic welding processes.
Working Conditions
- Physical Demands:
- The role involves strenuous physical activity, including working in elevated positions and confined spaces.
- The candidate must be capable of safely handling heavy equipment and materials.
- Site Conditions:
- The work environment may include exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, heat, and other industrial hazards.
- Adherence to strict safety practices is mandatory at all times.
