Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting with Food Preparation:
- Help with basic food prep tasks, such as washing, peeling, chopping vegetables, and portioning ingredients.
- Assist chefs in the preparation of salads, soups, sauces, or other items as needed.
- Ensure that ingredients and food items are readily available for cooking.
- Maintaining Cleanliness and Hygiene:
- Keep kitchen work surfaces, tools, and equipment clean and sanitized according to health and safety regulations.
- Regularly clean floors, counters, utensils, and kitchen appliances.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils, ensuring they are clean and ready for use.
- Ensure that the kitchen area remains organized, and waste is disposed of properly.
- Assisting with Cooking and Plating:
- Depending on the kitchen’s needs, assist with cooking tasks under the guidance of chefs, such as stirring, grilling, or frying.
- Help with plating food and garnishing dishes before they are sent out to the dining area.
- Assist in preparing mise en place (setting up ingredients and equipment before cooking).
- Stocking and Organizing Supplies:
- Ensure the kitchen is stocked with necessary ingredients, utensils, and equipment.
- Assist in receiving deliveries, checking inventory, and organizing food products in the storeroom or fridge.
- Monitor stock levels of essential supplies and inform the supervisor or head chef when items need to be replenished.
- Cleaning and Maintaining Kitchen Equipment:
- Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Help with the cleaning and care of kitchen appliances such as ovens, grills, and dishwashers.
- Report any equipment malfunctions to the head chef or kitchen supervisor for repair or replacement.
- Health and Safety Compliance:
- Follow proper food safety and sanitation practices at all times to ensure safe food handling and storage.
- Adhere to kitchen health and safety regulations, including temperature checks for hot and cold food storage.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness in compliance with local food safety laws and hotel policies.
- Supporting Kitchen Staff:
- Provide general assistance to chefs, sous chefs, and other kitchen staff during service periods, especially during peak hours.
- Help chefs with food prep for special events, banquets, or large groups.
- Provide support in setting up for buffets or other meal services.
- Waste Management:
- Assist with the disposal of kitchen waste, ensuring it is sorted and removed according to hotel waste management policies.
- Help manage food waste in accordance with sustainability practices (e.g., recycling or composting).
- Maintaining Personal Hygiene:
- Adhere to strict personal hygiene standards, including wearing a uniform, gloves, and hairnet as required by health and safety standards.
- Maintain a clean and tidy personal appearance to meet the hotel's professional standards.
- Assisting in Special Events and Functions:
- Help with preparation and service during special events, conferences, or banquets hosted by the hotel.
- Set up food stations, assist with food service, and ensure timely replenishment during events.
