Job Title: Art Curator

Location: VI, Lagos State.

Job Summary:

We are seeking an Art curator, you will be responsible for developing and overseeing exhibitions, selecting artists, and ensuring a compelling artistic vision for the project. The role involves research, writing, and relationship management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Research and conceptualise compelling exhibition themes that align with the gallery’s vision.
• Select and invite artists whose works fit the exhibition’s narrative, ensuring a diverse and high-quality representation.
• Manage communications and negotiations with artists, collectors, and institutions regarding participation in exhibitions.
• Oversee the acquisition and consignment processes for artworks featured in exhibitions.
• Coordinate with the operations team to develop pricing and commission structures for primary market sales.
• Write detailed curatorial statements, exhibition catalogues, and marketing materials that effectively communicate artistic intent.
• Work closely with the installation team to ensure proper layout, lighting, and presentation of artwork.
• Foster relationships with art critics, journalists, and media outlets to generate publicity and critical engagement.
Collaborate with other team members, such as photographers, videographers, and the social media manager, to enhance exhibition visibility.

Qualifications and Professional Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Archaeology or a related field.
• 3 years of experience in curatorial roles within galleries, museums, or cultural institutions.
• Proven track record of successfully curating exhibitions and working with artists.
• Strong understanding of contemporary and historical art trends.

• Ability to develop exhibition themes and select artists effectively
• Excellent research and writing skills for curatorial statements and catalogues.
• Strong networking skills to engage with artists, collectors, and industry professionals.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively.
Familiarity with industry-standard best practices in artwork handling and preservation.
