Background Information
Jireh Doo Foundation (JDF) is a National Non-government organization with over 15 years’ existence and actively intervening in the humanitarian response in the North East and other parts of the country since 2014. JDF works in 5 thematic areas of Gender and Humanitarian response, HIV and Health, Child Development, Research and Information, Single parents, and covers four states of Borno, Gombe, Nasarawa, and Benue.
Jireh Doo Foundations’ humanitarian intervention in the North East of Nigeria spans largely across two-state, Borno and Gombe states, and has been working actively in the sectors of water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), Nutrition, food security and livelihood, Protection, and Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Jireh Doo Foundation is seeking candidates with a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent and a minimum of two years of experience working on WASH-related issues for the implementation of the NCA-funded project in the Dikwa local government area.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure the development of accurate bill of quantities and detailed technical drawings for all WASH interventions in liaison with relevant technical staff from the sector and government
Ensure quality and integrity of implementation including adherence to technical guidelines, administrative systems, and established deadlines
Ensure community involvement at all phases of the project and the development of community ownership of the project
Provide feedback to the monitoring and evaluation system in order to assess the effectiveness and impact of the project and propose recommendations for improvement
Advise the WASH team in Water, Sanitation, and hygiene promotion programming in broad coordination with other sectors
Advice on mainstreaming gender, protection, nutrition in project and program activities.
Contribute to the development of constructive solutions to challenges identified by the community and other stakeholders during the implementation
Facilitate and maintain a good professional working relationship between JDF, communities, contractors, and all other parties involved during project implementation.
Provide regular written and verbal reports to the WASH lead and program manager on the progress of all WASH activities including regular site visits
With the help of the WASH, Lead develops and maintain weekly, monthly plans.
Assist in the preparation of WASH proposals.
Represent JDF externally when called upon
Collaborate and coordinate with government, NGOs, and UN agencies on WASH issues
Ensure that all relevant stakeholders have information about the organizations’ background, program, objectives working areas, duration of programs and activities in the field
Support other units of the organization as per the employee’s abilities
Support any activity that helps in reaching organizational goals, as per the employee’s abilities
Qualification and Experience
Essential
A Degree or its equivalent in water/civil/environmental engineering or any related course.
Previous working experience in humanitarian WASH implementation.
Experience in the multi and cross-cultural setting would be an asset
Computer skills; proficient in Microsoft office.
Ability to work effectively both independently (with minimal supervision) and MOST IMPORTANTLY as a member of a team
Effective planning and organizational skills
Accountability; Holds-self accountable for making decisions, managing resources efficiently
Fluency in both written and oral English.
The ability to communicate in Hausa, Kanuri, Shuwa would be an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Advanced computer skills, including the ability to type quickly and to use Microsoft Office products, email, and the internet.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality for sensitive issues or projects and use judgment to execute duties and responsibilities.
- Sensitive to cultural differences and an understanding of the political and ethical issues
- Fluency in English (written & spoken).
- Knowledge of health programs. Reference checks will be done
