Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
Tax Management:
- Oversee and manage all tax compliance and planning activities (CIT, VAT, WHT, PAYE, etc.)
- Ensure timely preparation, filing, and payment of tax returns to FIRS and relevant state tax authorities
- Identify tax savings opportunities and recommend strategies to optimize the company’s tax position
- Serve as the primary liaison with FIRS and other relevant tax authorities on audits, reconciliations, and disputes
- Keep abreast of changes in tax legislation and advise the company accordingly Ensure proper documentation and archiving of all tax-related filings and correspondence
Audit & Compliance:
- Plan and lead internal and external audits to assess financial records and internal controls
- Coordinate the preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules for audit purposes
- Monitor and ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies
- Identify and mitigate audit risks and recommend improvements to internal controls
- Supervise audit staff and assign tasks related to the audit process Coordinate with external auditors to ensure the timely completion of annual audit reports
Reporting & Strategy:
- Provide timely and accurate financial and tax reports to management and stakeholders
- Analyze audit findings and develop actionable recommendations to improve financial health and compliance
- Support strategic decision-making with sound tax and audit advice Prepare periodic audit reports and present key findings to senior management
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline
- A professional qualification (ICAN, ACCA, or CITN) is mandatory
- Minimum of 6 years proven experience in tax and audit functions, preferably in a consulting or corporate environment
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws, FIRS guidelines, and IFRS
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail, integrity, and ability to manage multiple tasks Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel
Additional skills:
- Prior experience working with or within a tax consulting or audit firm
- Strong network and relationship with regulatory authorities (e.g., FIRS, State IRS)
- Ability to lead a team and work under pressure with minimal supervision
