Job Description/Requirements
Job Summary:
The Senior Tax Associate plays a key role in delivering high-quality tax services to clients. The role involves overseeing tax compliance, providing tax advisory, managing junior staff, and ensuring all engagements are in line with relevant tax laws and regulations. The successful candidate will support a wide range of clients while gaining exposure to complex tax matters across various sectors.
Key Responsibilities: Tax Compliance & Advisory:
- Prepare and review complex tax computations and returns (CIT, VAT, PAYE, WHT, etc.).
- Provide tax advisory services to clients in areas such as corporate restructuring, transfer pricing, tax audits, and due diligence.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and proactively advise clients on impacts.
- Respond to tax queries and resolve issues raised by tax authorities.
Client Management:
- Serve as a point of contact for client tax matters.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing timely and strategic tax solutions.
- Assist in client onboarding, engagement letters, and billing.
Team Leadership & Review:
- Supervise junior tax associates and interns on tax engagements.
- Review work papers, tax returns, and supporting documentation.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and on-the-job training to team members.
Research & Reporting:
- Conduct technical research on complex tax issues and prepare technical memos.
- Prepare client reports, tax planning documents, and presentations.
- Support the preparation of thought leadership materials and tax alerts.
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure all work complies with firm quality standards and applicable laws.
- Identify tax risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
Requirements: Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Law.
- ACA/ACCA/ICAN or relevant tax certification (e.g., CITN) – required .
- A postgraduate degree in Taxation or related field is an advantage.
Experience:
- 3–5 years of experience in tax compliance and advisory, preferably in a consulting or accounting firm.
- Solid experience dealing with FIRS and State IRS.
- Proven ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines.
Skills:
- Deep understanding of Nigerian tax laws and international tax frameworks.
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.
- Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
