Fiber Engineer – FTTH / FTTB / OSP / ELP
Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Experience Required: 5+ Years
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Fiber Engineer to join our team in Lagos. The role demands a strong background in ELP, OSP, FTTH, FTTB, fiber design, implementation, and maintenance, along with hands-on expertise in home drops, customer activations, and civil builds. The ideal candidate will also be well-versed in international standards of operations to ensure our networks are designed and delivered at world-class quality.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Planning
Conduct Engineering, Layout & Planning (ELP) for fiber networks including OSP and ISP.
Design FTTH/FTTB/Backbone network architectures, ensuring scalability, redundancy, and compliance with ITU-T, IEEE, IEC, and ISO standards.
Develop network drawings, schematics, and BoQs using AutoCAD/Visio/GIS tools.
Carry out site surveys and feasibility studies for new fiber routes, home drops, and last-mile connectivity.
Prepare detailed as-built documentation for ongoing and completed projects.
Implementation & Deployment
Supervise OSP construction works (ducting, trenching, micro-trenching, HDD, aerial fiber, and manhole installations).
Oversee civil builds ensuring quality reinstatement, HSE compliance, and adherence to municipal regulations.
Lead FTTH/FTTB rollout projects including splitters, distribution points, joint closures, and customer premises equipment (CPE) installations.
Manage home drops and customer activations, ensuring seamless service delivery.
Coordinate with contractors and vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective deployment.
Maintenance & Operations
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of fiber optic networks.
Troubleshoot and repair fiber cuts, signal degradation, and GPON/Active Ethernet faults.
Carry out OTDR testing, splicing, patching, and optical power measurements for both planned and emergency works.
Ensure SLA compliance through rapid fault diagnosis and restoration.
Maintain up-to-date fiber route maps, GIS records, and network documentation.
Quality, Standards & Compliance
Implement and enforce international telecom standards across design, build, and maintenance.
Ensure strict adherence to Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) policies on all project sites.
Conduct quality assurance inspections during and post-deployment.
Train, guide, and mentor junior engineers and contractors on fiber installation best practices.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of experience in OSP/ISP fiber network design, implementation, and maintenance.
Strong knowledge of FTTH/FTTB/GPON/Active Ethernet technologies.
Proven track record in civil works supervision, reinstatement, and municipal compliance.
Proficiency with AutoCAD, GIS, OTDRs, Power Meters, Splicing Machines.
Hands-on experience in last-mile connectivity, home drops, and customer activations.
Strong understanding of global telecom standards (ITU-T, IEEE, IEC, ISO).

HSE Certification (NEBOSH/IOSH) – desirable.
